Now that we're through the election I thought it would be a good idea to give a rundown on the results and expectations for the market and economy moving forward. I've attached a link for Brian Wesbuy's (Chief Economist at First Trust Portfolios) analysis. He does a great job of laying out the details and his reasons to be optimistic moving forward.
To summarize, he says that because Republicans added 10+ seats in the House of Representatives, will likely maintain control in the Senate, and we'll have a new President Biden, his read is that the American people voted against large and/or radical policy change but also wanted a break from the chaos of Trump's presidency. Given the divided government, lack of substantive change, record corporate profits, and potential Covid vaccines, he is very optimistic on market performance over the next 12-18 months.
